Christian Science Healing has been practiced for over 140 years. Here are a few questions and answers to help explain a little more.

What sort of problems can be healed?

Any and every kind of problem can be healed in Christian Science. Christian Science treatment is based on the premise that man (meaning all men and women) is perfect because God is perfect. Since Christian Science starts with what God knows about any situation, no disease is seen as being harder to heal than anyother, since all things are possible to God.

What is Christian Science Treatment?

It is specific prayer based on the teachings of Christian Science, in which man is understood to be the image and likeness of God. As such it is an entirely mental method designed to bring to light the perfect, harmonious and healthy status of man as a child of God, and thereby eliminate discord and disease. (It does not involve the laying on of hands or any other material means; the patient is not required to be physically present.) Both physical and emotional conditions can be healed.

What is a Journal-listed practioner?

A Christian Science Practioner is healer who practises prayer-based healing in accordance with the teachings of Christian Science. A Practioner is said to be “Journal-listed” if they advertise in the Christian Science Journal, a monthly magazine published by the Christian Science Publishing Society. To be accepted for advertising in the Journal, must have a proven record of healing, and be in the practice full-time.

Does it matter that I live on the other side of the world from you?

No. Since we are dealing with thought, time and space are no limitation to the healing work.

What is required of me, the patient?

Firstly, I would ask you to obtain a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy and to read and study this book. The healing work is more speedily accomplished if you are receptive to the new ideas you are gaining. Please endeavor to “realize that divine Love gives [you] all power over every physical action and condition.” (S&H p 420). Please strive to make understanding God your first priority, and not to be impressed by material conditions. Fear dissolves as you understand that divine Love is in control. Finally, please be in touch with me regularly and share any concerns so that we can meet and overcome them together.

What is this book Science and Health and where can I obtain a copy?

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy is the textbook of Christian Science. It contains the complete teachings of Christian Science. It can be purchased from a Christian Science Reading Room, a good bookshop, or online at spirituality.com, or amazon.co.uk. I would be happy to help you obtain a copy.

Can I mix Christian Science with other forms of treatment?

It should be noted that Christian Science is an alternative (rather than complementary) health care system. The ineffectiveness of mixing Christian Science and medical (or other) treatment arises from the contradictory standpoints from which these systems are practised, and is generally as ill-advised as trying to keep one foot on the shore and one foot on board when a boat leaves port. It is best to either stay on shore, or get on the boat! Provided you are legally capable, you have the right to make your own health care choices. It is never my job to advise on health care decisions, and I will never do this. I am not a doctor and cannot make a medical diagnosis (the “Dr” before my name indicates that I hold a PhD in mathematical physics).

When you request me to work for you, I do so as a Christian Science Practitioner, on the understanding that you have made a free and informed decision to rely solely on God for healing through Christian Science Treatment. If this is not the case please speak to me about this (there are a very few special exceptions when I would consider providing Christian Science treatment contemporaneously with medical or other treatment – the important thing it to keep me informed). If you have chosen, or later choose to pursue a medical or alternative route, this does not mean we cannot talk together about God and Christian Science. The ideas in the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy are always accessible and available, no matter what, and I am always happy to discuss these ideas with you.

What about practical care? / What are Christian Science Nurses?

Christian Science nurses provide practical care for those relying exclusively on Christian Science for healing. Please see this is as Love’s provision to meet a human need, therefore please engage the services of a nurse should the need arise. Should you do so, it would be helpful to ask them to inform me of anything I should be aware of. However, please note that nurses and practitioners are employed and paid separately and independently by you. As well as private visiting nurses, there are a number of CS Nursing Homes in the UK.

What about confidentiality?

As a Christian Science Practitioner I obey the strictest rules of confidentiality, and any information you share with me will be held in sacred confidence
